Functional Appliances
Functional appliances can be used as interceptive treatment options for young patients. Some benefits of interceptive treatment are:
• Reducing the risk of tooth crowding
• Creating facial symmetry through influencing jaw growth
• Space preservation for un-erupted teeth
• Elimination of 'crossbites', 'overbites' and 'underbites'
• Management of thumb sucking habits
Twinblock
A Twin block is a set of upper and lower removable plates that work together in conjunction with the patient's natural growth potential to correct jaw issues (malocclusions) such as 'underbites' and 'overbites'.
Upper Removable Appliance (URA)
Removable orthodontic appliances are appliances that are customized to fit your mouth to aid in your orthodontic treatment plan. Unlike braces and other types of appliances that are attached to your teeth, removable appliances can be taken out on your own as needed, such as when you are cleaning your teeth. Your treatment plan will be created for you by your orthodontist. In order to find the best plan of action to address the various stages that involve the adjustment of your teeth, you may require removable orthodontic appliances for the best results.
They can be used to correct minor orthodontic issues such as crossbites, expand narrow arches and slight individual tooth movements. Small screws can be inserted inside the plates in different places to perform these movements. Patients/ parents taught and advised to wind the screws themselves periodically to activate the tooth movement.Even Clear Aligners such as Invisalign aligners are a removable appliance.
First Consultation
What to expect
Our appointment schedule is carefully managed to allow us to provide you with orthodontic treatment in an efficient and relaxed environment.
We find out what your expectations are and what you wish to achieve through orthodontic treatment. Our initial consultation includes a clinical examination -your facial structure, bite, alignment of your teeth, health of the soft tissues and jaw function, brief discussion about your clinical presentation, options of treatment available, ball park fee, payment options and answer all other questions you may have. Consultation fee-$75 for ages 0-18 years and $150 for adults.
We encourage you to ask questions as well such as:
● Do I have a condition that orthodontics can address?
● Can orthodontics enhance my teeth, jaw and facial profile?
● Is treatment needed now or should treatment be delayed until further growth and/or tooth eruption have occurred?
● What treatment procedures will be used in my circumstances?
● Do any permanent teeth need to be removed?
● How long will treatment take?
● What investment is required?
● What are my payment options?
Prior to your first visit, we require you to fill out a health history form.
You can also assist us by bringing along any panoramic x-rays taken by your dentist within the past six months to your first visit.
If you decide to proceed with our office, a second appointment - RECORDS appointment is booked.
Diagnostic records are collected at a second appointment. These comprise of digital x- rays such as a Panoramic x- ray, Lateral Cephalogram or a 3D CBCT if required ; photographs of the face and teeth, and 3D scan with Trios 3D scanner or dental impressions to construct 3D Digital study models or plaster study models of the teeth. These records are to assess, diagnose and provide a detailed and accurate assessment, as well as a personalised treatment plan. This will include a description of the appliances to be used in treatment, a discussion about the risks and limitations of orthodontic treatment as part of the informed consent process, length of treatment and the costs/payment options available.

The doctor and staff here are really professional and helpful. Sue is a standout. She knows customer service by heart and not by the book.
